I’ve now read at least thirty-three articles on how to deal with the Corona virus. Each one is more or less the same. Wash your hands—thoroughly and often. A mask probably won’t help much; let the medical professionals have them. Don’t go anywhere if you don’t have to—especially if you’re over 60 or in poor health.
I’ve read them over and over, the fear between the lines oozing into the space between the reassurances. It’s probably going to be like a cold for most people, they say. Don’t worry. Yet somehow fear energy continues to grow.
The latest research on new cases of Corona shows that it’s probably been circulating for at least six weeks before we knew about it. That was my intuitive read all along. The genetic code in some people’s virus precedes what was thought to be the first viruses. The horse was already out of the barn, with most people thinking they just had a regular cold or flu.
Did you know the meaning of the word Corona is the light that shimmers around a solar eclipse? The Moon blocks the Sun’s light, but despite the darkness we know the light is still there.
We had a potent solar eclipse on December 25, 2019 at 4 degrees of Capricorn. China reported the first cases of Corona on December 31st. Eclipses trigger change in our lives, often in an intense way. If we feel prepared, eclipses suggest magical results toward our intended goals. If we’re stuck or fearful, eclipse-related events often feel overwhelming. In retrospect we usually see the silver lining, although I’m the first to admit it may take lifetimes before we truly understand why we needed to experience certain painful events in order to transform. Never is spiritual philosophy meant to minimize compassion for the suffering of life.
As we ponder this illness
Will we slow down our lives to avoid contact with the virus and find some simplicity, weaving new choices and habit patterns into our lives?
Will we use less resources for awhile and see some incremental change to global warming patterns?
Will we come together as people, facing a virus that doesn’t care about our nationality or political beliefs?
Time will tell, yet for now, I offer that we choose to optimize health. It’s not the first nor the last new virus we’ll be exposed to, and it’s easy to forget that thousands are dying each year from known flu strains. Deaths from cigarette smoking are about seven MILLION per year.
Here are the five tips:
Banish Fear/Be Love: Fear is the opposite emotion to love, and love is the core energy of the heart chakra, smack dab in the middle of the lungs. So when you feel fear creeping in, take a deep breath, focus your mind on gratitude for your health, remind yourself to love you, and then also do something kind for another person. When we open to love and joy, we are healthier in the lungs and heart itself. Practice a loving, compassionate viewpoint in all situations.
Find Your Breath: Most of us breathe shallow breaths, barely opening the lungs to their capacity. Learn some breathing exercises (known as pranayama in yoga). Give your lungs love and oxygen. Keep them healthy and less likely to be susceptible to any virus.
Love Some Exercise: Cardio exercise, brisk walking and even flow yoga can give the lungs a workout, improve vitality, and enhance health and immunity.
Start or Expand Your Yoga & Meditation Practice: There are many studies that show any form of consciousness practice will enhance the immune system, even fifteen minutes a day. Check out this link about the benefits of practice. To me the most interesting study came from Oslo where they had half the subjects do yoga and the other half listen to music and walk in the woods. The yoga group had particularly strong improvement in gene activation of the immune system. Check out the details of the Oslo Study.
Eat Well and Sleep: Eat you veggies, take some vitamins, get good rest. These are basic health building choices for everyday; sometimes we forget how amazingly resilient our bodies can be when we care for them.
Yes, and also wash your hands, well and often.
